JD adds first China-US cargo flights

E-commerce platform JD.com has continued to ramp up its air cargo network with the launch of its first cargo flight between China and the US
The service between Nanjing Lukou International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport will be operated three times a week by China Eastern Airlines.
The first flight took place on June 7. Images show the flight being operated with an A330 passenger aircraft.
JD.com said that the route will be able to deliver products from China’s two major manufacturing regions — Shanghai and Shenzhen — and will mainly carry cross-border e-commerce products such as apparel and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
“The flight will be able enable transportation from China to clients in the US as fast as 48 hours, greatly reducing the fulfillment time and further stimulating goods transport between the two countries,” the company said.
JD is aiming to build what it calls a “double 48” network to deliver from China to the destination country within 48 hours and deliver to the end customer within 48 hours.
In late May, the company announced the start of a new all-cargo charter flight between Shenzhen and Bangkok.
