Handler Menzies Aviation has added extra cargo capacity at Los Angeles International (LAX) as it looks to expand in the Americas.

Menzies said that it has expanded its cargo facilities by 40% at LAX with the addition of a new off-airport warehouse.

The facility will handle import cargo whilst an existing on-airport facility will continue to handle most of its exports at the airport.

The company said: “The dedicated import and export warehouse facilities more than doubles Menzies’ truck door capacity and in conjunction with new and efficient operating procedures for truck access will significantly enhance the customer experience. Menzies also has its own inter-terminal transport which keeps freight moving airside to landside.”

All three facilities are custom bonded and collectively have the capacity to handle over 130,000 tonnes each year.

The handler added that it aims to grow in the Americas region – it launched cargo operations in Miami earlier this year and “more is planned”.

This year the company also reached the milestone of having 50 cargo stations.
