Cargo handler Alliance Ground International (AGI) has held a lottery offering staff the chance to win a share of $50,000 in prizes if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The US firm said that it had established the lottery to promote employee vaccinations across AGI and sister companies Cargo Force and the Cargo Security Company.

All employees that were fully vaccinated by December 17 were eligible to win a cash prize: one winner will take home $25,000, three runners up will receive $5,000 and four other employees will take home $2,500.

The draw took place on December 20.

The move comes as the overall ground handling industry has at times struggled with staff shortages due to outbreaks resulting in employees needing to isolate.

In turn this has caused backlogs at airports as handlers have struggled with high demand for air cargo.
