Expeditors’ operations begin to come back online following cyber attack

Expeditors is beginning to handle shipments again following a cyber attack two weeks ago.

In its latest update, the US forwarder said that it was making progress in returning to normal operation, although recovery efforts are still underway.

“We are now handling shipments and providing services across most products and expanding recovery across our locations,” the company said.

“We recognise the challenges this incident has created within supply chains. Expeditors greatly appreciates the patience of our customers and service providers, and can assure you that we share the urgency of making our services available in a timely manner.”

It added: “Our teams continue to work around the clock to deploy robust immediate and longer-term solutions, in keeping with our business continuity plans, to restore our systems as soon as possible.”

The company first reported that it had suffered a cyber attack on February 20.

Expeditors called in a team of cyber security experts as it battled to get operations back up and running.

The forwarder is not the only company in airfreight to have suffered an attack in recent months.

In February, ground handler Swissport battled an attack.

And in December, forwarder Hellmann’s operations were also affected by a breach.
