The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has granted Romcargo Airlines a foreign air carrier permit to conduct operations to and from the US under the US-EU Air Transport Agreement.

Romania-based Romcargo Airlines filed a permit application on February 16 and the permit, alongside an exemption, was approved on March 16, according to the document published on the government’s Regulation.gov website.

The airline will be able to carry out foreign scheduled and charter air transportation of property and mail between European Union states/European Common Aviation Area members and the US.

Romcargo has also been granted authority to conduct transportation authorised by any additional route rights that may be made available to European Union carriers in the future.

“It is in the public interest to issue the applicant a foreign air carrier permit…,” said the DOT.

It added: “We also find that the applicant is financially and operationally qualified to perform the services authorized, and that it is substantially owned and effectively controlled in a manner consistent with the provisions of the U.S.-EU Agreement.”

The Romanian all-cargo carrier, which operates a B747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter, was founded in 2021 and received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in November 2021 from the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority (AACR).

In December, the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA) revoked the airline’s certificate but reinstated it later in the month.

Earlier the same month, Romcargo appointed Air One Aviation as its exclusive Global Sales & Services partner (GSSA) to meet demand for Asia-Europe cargo capacity.
