CHAMPorado, a team comprised of CHAMP Cargosystems professionals, won two awards at this year’s IATA ONE Record Hackathon held in Amsterdam.

The team won the ONE Record Prize for the solution that made the best use of the ONE Record API in terms of innovation and creativity.

All teams were asked to build solutions to enhance cargo products using the ONE Record Data Sharing standard by multimodal means.

The hosts asked the teams to address at least one of the related challenges by using at least one of the APIs available at the event.

CHAMPorado’s Express Pick up solution consisted of the CHAMP Cargospot Mobile app and web portal that jointly enable a paperless process to compose and schedule pickup time and orders.

The winning solution also managed door assignment for truckers while integrating a queue management system to optimize the flow around the warehouse, leading to substantial efficiency gains and cost savings.

The team was also awarded the prize for Most Diverse Team.

The event was held in two phases in a hybrid format that included around-the-clock coding sessions to drive projects to completion on the final day.

More than 140 people participated in the event with a 50/50 split of in-person and online participation. At the final, 11 projects were delivered from around the world. Two CHAMP teams entered the competition.

Said Henk Mulder, head of digital cargo at IATA: “It’s essential to bring industry partners together through events like these Hackathons and to have CHAMP represented by these highly engaged experts and engineers added diversity, inspiration, and true competition to all other teams.

“As our industry inches forwards in its efforts for full digital transformation, with people like the CHAMPorado team, I know we’re in very good hands.”

Said Chris McDermott, CHAMP Cargosystems chief executive: “We are very proud of the passion and commitment demonstrated by both our CHAMP teams at the IATA ONE Record Hackathon.

“The Express Pick up project is testament to the ingenuity and speed that new features and functionalities could be introduced to our own Cargospot Mobile app.

“CHAMP would like to give a special thanks to all those who joined the Hackathon, as well as the tireless work of the individuals turning around innovative ideas and solutions in record-breaking time.”
