PML makes two senior appointments

UK-based perishables supply chain solutions provider PML has Philip Booth as its finance director and Karl Gerding as sales manager.

Booth, who has more than 30 years of experience in finance control, has joined the family-owned business at what the company said is “an exciting time for the air, sea, and road logistics specialist. He will head up a team of six.

Booth informed: “I have a proven track record of working with SME [small- and medium-sized enterprise] specialists (of £2m-£50m turnover) which sits well with PML’s positioning and was attracted to the company’s renowned reputation for forward thinking and innovation.

“I will work closely with managing director Mike Parr, bringing fresh thinking to the business and improved financial structure, which I believe will reap strong rewards.”

Booth will be based at PML’s Heathrow headquarters, although he will have oversight of all PML operations, including Lympne (in Kent), Spalding (in Linconshire), Portsmouth (in Hampshire) and PML Africa.

Gerding joined the company in March 2023 with a track record of working in logistics and direct experience of the specific requirements of the perishable goods sector.

Previous roles have included four years at Hellmann Worldwide, nearly three years at GEODIS and seven years at UTi Worldwide.

Gerding’s position with PML will see him applying his extensive knowledge of supply chain logistics by air, road, and sea to further expand the company’s portfolio of clients, all requiring a highly professional, efficient, and seamless transfer of temperature-sensitive goods.

Having worked in logistics for over 20 years’, Gerding was already familiar with PML, as the company widely acknowledged as the no1 player in the movement of perishable goods.

Gerding remarked: “I’ve long admired PML’s innovative approach to business and was attracted to the company’s solid reputation and independent status.

“As a business that operates its own trucks with possession of its own facilities – including the impressive new transport and logistics hub at Kent – PML is well placed to continue its meteoric growth within the perishable goods sector, and I am looking forward to playing an active part in the company’s future success.”

Gerding will be based at PML’s Heathrow headquarters and will have direct responsibility for three business development managers.
