Oman Air sees first-half cargo volumes rise

Oman Air Cargo has benefitted from the return of belly capacity in the first half of the year as it looks ahead to freighter operations.

The Muscat International-based airline registered a 42% increase in cargo volumes in the first half of the year.

The airline also said that cargo revenues “surpassed” OMR22.3m, although did not provide an exact growth rate, and added the yields dipped – reflecting overall market trends.

“Despite a dip in yield compared to the previous year, the results indicate healthy growth and the carrier’s focus on technology, efficiency and customer service are ensuring it retains its strong position in the market,” the airline said.

The increase comes as the carrier has been busy re-instating its passenger operations following the Covid pandemic.

The carrier also pointed out that it had achieved IATA’s CEIV Pharma and Fresh certifications and was investing in its digital capabilities with plans to add a revenue management system and online booking channels in the works.

The carrier also confirmed the addition of its first-ever freighter this year – a Boeing 737-800 converted freighter that is able to carry around 21 tonnes of cargo.

Last year, the cargo business of Oman Air increased cargo volumes by 36% and revenue by 44% compared to 2021.
