Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), Hong Kong’s largest independent cargo handler, has won two awards at this year’s Supply Chain Asia Awards.

It was named Air Cargo Terminal Operator of the Year based, it said, on its submission covering ongoing innovations including its new ‘Animal Limo’ live animal transfer vehicle; its new Cool Zone within subsidiary Hacis’ E-commerce Fulfilment Centre; the introduction of canine detection of undeclared lithium batteries in cargo; and its new Knowledge Management Initiative.

It also received a Special Award based on its ‘New lives for old uniforms’ project, in which outdated surplus staff uniforms were transformed into useful bags and teddy bears.

Supply Chain Asia is a not-for-profit industry body that aims to bring together professionals from within the logistics and supply chain industry in order to share knowledge, to learn from one another and to create opportunities for collaboration.

Its awards have been given since 2007 and were held this year at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore.

Hactl chief executive Wilson Kwong accepted the Air Cargo Terminal Operator of the Year award. He remarked: “Hactl continues to invest in its business, even in the current challenging environment.

“Winning this award again is an endorsement of our ongoing drive for continuous improvement, and we are grateful to the organisers and judges for their recognition.”

And Joanna Li, executive director – commercial and business development of Hactl, was handed the Special Award. She said that the award reflected “the tremendous scope for sustainability projects throughout our industry”.

Kerry wins

Meanwhile, Kerry Logistics Network (KLN) was named the Asian 3PL of the Year at the Supply Chain Asia Awards for the eighth time.

KLN also received the title of Supply Chain Innovator of the Year (Integrated Warehouse Solutions) at the awards ceremony. This title is conferred on companies that have created or adopted innovation in their operations with proven success and benefits in terms of productivity, operating efficiency and savings.

Being named as Supply Chain Innovator of the Year award was recognition of KLN’s innovative integrated warehousing solution that sees KOOLBee sorting robots used in its warehouses to facilitate sorting for e-commerce fulfilment.

Both awards were picked up by Alan Yip, managing director – South East Asia at KLN.

Vic Cheung, group managing director for KLN, said that the twin recognitions “highlight KLN’s unique position and comprehensive capabilities in Asia, as well as our unwavering commitment to providing the finest service to our customers.

“As the global supply chain evolves, we will continue to drive innovative solutions and maintain service excellence,” Cheung added.
