Finnair Cargo on the up in October

Finnair transported a total of 12,550.7 tonnes of cargo in October, up by 27.4 percent year on year (and by 10 percent month on month).

Performance in October was boosted by the collaborative arrangement with Qatar Airways (which sees cargo capacity on relevant Finnair flights fully allocated to and sold by the Doha-headquartered carrier) as well as thanks to increased capacity to Asia, although there was an impact from the cancellation of operations between Sweden and the US that cut North Atlantic cargo capacity.

Capacity as measured in available cargo tonne kms increased by 23.2% year on year to 125.8 million, while the revenue cargo tonne kms figure rose by 21.8% year-on-year to reach 72.8 million.

This meant that the cargo load factor fell slightly, by 0.6 percent year on year, to 57.9 percent.

The statistics for the first 10 months of this year are more mixed. Over the January to October period, Finland’s flag-carrier flew a total of 110,633.2 tonnes of cargo – this was up by 8.6 percent year on year, but the cargo load factor fell over that same period by 5.9 percent year on year as the revenue tonne km figure hardly moved while available capacity rose by 11.2 percent.
