Setback for Cargolux peace talks

Cargolux management said that talks on a new collective work agreement (CWA) with the LCGB pilots’ union were cut short after the union “surprisingly backtracked on the agreement in principal reached on December 1.”
According to the Luxembourg-based all-cargo airline, LCGB “declared unexpectedly to all participants that they considered the negotiations had failed as management was not prepared to accept their demands.”
It added: “LCGB and its members are seemingly unable to accept their responsibility for job security and growth in Luxembourg and to accept the necessity of inevitable change. Cargolux cannot help but wonder about the reliability and credibility of a social partner who agrees on certain compromises, only to negate their own decisions days later.”
However, CLSC (Confédération Luxembourgeoise des Syndicats Chrétiens) and OGB-L had confirmed their intention to sign a new CWA this week, it added.
The parties had reached agreement in principal on the main terms and the final wording for the airline’s pilots, having already agreed with the three unions on all points concerning Cargolux ground staff.
But for pilots, LCGB has since “repeatedly raised new claims and consistently showed little if any willingness to compromise on items concerning their flying members and representatives.” LCGB had also refused to produce a complete list of all their demands, the airline added.
The union has been asked for a response to the Cargolux statement.
