DHL Express opens new Chicago facility

DHL Express has opened a new $1.3m service centre close to Chicago’s Midway International Airport on the back of e-commerce growth.
The new 38,000 sq ft facility will be able to process more than 2,500 shipments per hour and is located just north of Midway International.
The express firm said the decision to open the new facility was driven by strong demand and international shipment growth from local businesses trading internationally, e-commerce shipping and major customers based in Illinois.
The centre complements an existing 80,000 sq ft service centre facility in the vicinity of Chicago O’Hare that serves businesses in Northern Illinois as well as “The Loop”, the second largest downtown business district in the US.
The new facility will handle a variety of shipments, including international small parcels as well as palletised and container freight.
