European airports see cargo demand improvements in July

Europe’s airports saw cargo traffic grow in July ahead of performance for the rest of the year thanks to improvements at airports within the European Union.
The latest figures from Airports Council International (ACI) Europe show that air cargo demand at the continent’s airports increased by 2.3% year on year in July.
This compares with the 1.6% increase recorded over the first seven months of the year.
ACI said that most of the increase came from airports in the European Union (EU), with airports outside the EU registering a decline in demand.
Looking at individual airports, Istanbul recorded a demand decline of 19.5% year on year for the month, with July being the month when an attempted coup took place.
Of the region’s top four cargo airports, Heathrow registered a 2.6% increase for July, there was a 1% drop at Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt registered a 1.4% increase and traffic at Amsterdam was up 4.4%.
The improved growth figures for European airports reflects the numbers reported by airlines. IATA figures released earlier this month for July show European airlines registered a 7.2% improvement in freight tonne kms during the month.
