Alaska Airlines chooses SmartKargo booking system

Alaska Airlines has selected SmartKargo to provide a booking engine for the carrier’s expanding cargo business throughout North America.
The cloud-based solution provides a backend system to allow users to input the booking requirements on a single screen.
The engine comes pre-loaded with key information, such as IATA regulatory and commodity codes. The technology also enables the e-AWB which is central to IATA’s paperless initiative.
“We are very excited about the future-forward capabilities that SmartKargo provides,” said Jason Berry, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of cargo.”
The SmartKargo platform is built upon the Microsoft Azure cloud and offers flexible pricing and rate making, ease-of-use and 24/7 call support through three global call centres.
In April this year, Alaska Air Group, parent company of Alaska Airlines, acquired Virgin America in a transaction valued at approximately $4.0bn.
The merger expands Alaska Airlines’ presence in California, adding to its core market in the Pacific Northwest. It will also secure its position as the US’s fifth-biggest carrier and as a serious competitor to the big four US airlines.
