Rhenus sets up South Korean bridgehead

German-owned forwarder Rhenus is opening its own office in South Korea at the beginning of November and has set up a Rhenus Logistics Korea arm. The new location in the capital, Seoul will organise air and sea freight, third-party logistics and domestic transport services.
Rhenus aims to establish itself as a partner for transporting, handling and storing raw materials, semi-finished products and industrial and consumer goods in the market, followed by individual solutions for specific sectors.
Board member responsible for Asia, Tobias Bartz, said: “Seoul forms the centre of South Korea and is the focal point of the Sudogwon metropolitan district. More than 25m people live there and this accounts for half of the population of the country; it therefore provides an excellent starting point for our range of logistics solutions.”
While much of Korea’s trade is with Europe , the new company will also focus on intra-Asia  transport. Rhenus says the country offers excellent air freight connections to and from Incheon International Airport, one of the largest in Asia, and the port of Busan, which is in the world top ten.
“We also envisage further growth in this market in future after completing the starting phase in Seoul,” said Bartz.
