Exports lead Heathrow growth spurt

Export cargo through Heathrow grew 12% in April, with increases of 27% to Latin America and 19% to South Asia -at least twice as fast as volumes to Europe (+11%), said the London airport operator. North America remains Britain’s most important export market from Heathrow, recording healthy 14% growth in cargo in April.
Overall cargo (exports and imports) was up 8.6% in April. For the first four months of the year it was up 7.6% to 537,461 tonnes and for the 12 months to April it rose 5.1%, to 1.58m tonnes.
The airport added that its new route to Qingdao in China by Beijing Capital Airlines is expected to provide nearly 4,000 tonnes of new cargo export space when it starts this summer.
