We want to be in pharma top five says Turkish Cargo chief

Chief cargo officer Turhan Özen says he wants Turkish Cargo to become one of the top five pharma carriers by 2023.  Speaking at a Pharma Day panel of industry representatives in Frankfurt organized by the carrier’s cargo sales team in late May, he said pharma was an important part of Turkish Airlines’ strategy to increase its presence in the special cargo sector.
Earlier, at Air Cargo News’ pharmaceutical and life sciences session at Air Cargo Europe in Munich on May 10, Özen said that manufacturing and distribution of pharma products was becoming increasingly complex with multi-site manufacturing strategies.
With growing use of personalised medicines and increasing demand in emerging markets, regulations were becoming more onerous and there was market consolidation in the pharma industry.
He called on the air cargo industry to invest in end-to-end visibility, better data management and end-to-end compliance with regulations.
At the Frankfurt panel, pharma industry delegates urged the setting up of a dedicated team for special cargo at the new Istanbul airport currently under construction.
