Frankfurt cargo tonnages up 5.1% in May

Frankfurt Airport saw a "significant increase" in cargo traffic during May 2017 to 186,547 tonnes, a 5.1% rise over same month 2016.
Frankfurt’s cargo throughput grew by 1.9% during April to 185,340 tonnes, tempered by a slowdown during the Easter period.
Said a spokesperson for the German hub, Europe’s second largest cargo gateway by freight volumes in 2016: "Growth [in May] was buoyed by a more favorable economic environment which, in particular, had a positive impact on the eurozone’s industrial sector, resulting in higher exports."
Last month’s cargo results for European airports are beginning to trickle in. Brussels airport saw May 2017 freight volumes of 40,836 tons, up by 8.1%, in comparison with same month in 2015.
The comparison with May last year, when aircraft operations were still affected by the March 2016 terrorist attack on the passenger terminal, shows 2017 freight volumes up by 8.5%
