Hermes Germany takes over SEKO Logistics GmbH

On 1 September 2018, Hermes Germany will formally take over SEKO Logistics GmbH.
SEKO Logistics GmbH has offices in Bremen and Frankfurt and all employees of both these offices in Germany will be incorporated into the new Hermes structure.
Hermes provides international logistics services to the retail industry. Headquartered in Hamburg, it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Otto Group.
SEKO Logistics is a provider of international supply chain services, which include freight and IT solutions. With this alliance, the partners aim – SEKO said – to combine their competencies in both business to business (B2B) and business to consumer markets.
Stephan Schiller, managing director of Hermes Europe, described SEKO Logistics as “an internationally well-established partner that offers an ideal enhancement of the service spectrum of Hermes”.
He continued: “With this acquisition, we will not only create synergy for the entire Hermes Group, the existing customer bases of both companies will also profit from the changes brought about by a broader product portfolio, eg in terms of access to fulfilment solutions in the USA, Asia and Europe.”
Hermes Germany will also become a key partner of the global SEKO network, a statement from the latter company announced.
SEKO’s focus on “omni-channel logistics, white glove solutions, technology, international air and ocean freight, surface transport, combined transport, demand chain solutions, warehousing and logistics services” is expected to broaden the “international growth potential for the Hermes Group, particularly in view of the key e-commerce markets in the US, Asia and Europe”, the former said.
“SEKO Logistics, in turn, will profit from the extensive Hermes distribution network in Europe,” the SEKO statement added.
James Gagne, president and chief executive of SEKO Logistics, described Hermes as a “one of the largest players on the European parcel and two-man-handling market and a highly efficient provider of supply chain solutions.
“The partnership will blend together the heritage, experience and innovative services of two highly respected logistics companies whilst strengthening our respective global networks and local presence,” he added.
The Hermes International business unit established within Hermes Germany at the beginning of this year consolidates all the company’s international activities.
