ABC steps up European network

RUSSIA’S AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) is expanding its presence in Europe with new routes linking Moscow with Malmo in Sweden and Leipzig, Germany.
From this month, the new Malmo service to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport will be in addition to the existing weekend B737 freighter operated by Atran Cargo Airlines, also part of Volga-Dnepr Group.
ABC’s B747 freighter between the two cities will operate on Fridays.
"This means we can offer customers additional capacity and the ability to connect via Moscow to our network in North America and Asia,” insists ABC’s Henk-Jan van Keulen, who is responsible for business development in Europe.
The airline is also confident of generating strong inbound support on the route, particularly from China.
ABC is also launching a weekly B747 freighter service from Leipzig, Germany, thereby extending the group’s strong association with the airport.
Volga-Dnepr Group already has a strong presence in Leipzig, where it has invested in a modern aircraft maintenance and repair facility to serve a variety of aircraft types.
"Adding Leipzig to our growing network underlines ABC’s commitment to the airport and recognises its potential as a major airfreight hub in Eastern Europe," says Andrey Andreev, the company’s head of business development in Germany and eastern Europe.
Denis Ilin, executive president of ABC, says the carrier is looking at other new routes to increase its network into and out of Europe.
