IAG Cargo in Colombian summer uplift

IAG CARGO is increasing the summer frequency of its flights between Spain and Colombia.
The cargo arm of British Airways and Iberia said that two additional weekly flights between its Madrid hub and Bogotá will start from August 9, increasing to three in September.
The flights will be operated by Iberia’s A340-600 passenger aircraft that can carry up to 18 tonnes of cargo.
The extra frequencies will be on top of the daily flight that already operates on the route and will be in service for ten weeks during the summer period.
Rodrigo Casal, vice president Latin America at IAG Cargo, said: “These additional summer frequencies will provide a welcome boost to businesses trading to and from Colombia, offering them more capacity, as well as giving them more control over the pace and volume of shipments.”
Colombian national carrier Avianca has already confirmed that it will this week restart direct air links between its Bogotá hub at El Dorado International and London Heathrow, offering a four-times-weekly service using an A330-200. It will be the sole direct air link between Colombia and the UK.
The main goods into Bogotá are general freight and textiles coming from Spain, Italy, France and Germany. From Colombia, the most important flows are perishables such as flowers and fruits heading to markets in Spain, France, the UK and Switzerland.
